This is amazing. Bad Apple is from an anime game music video and it’s a thing to recreate it in different ways. Scenes are printed and also the music is played on the stepper motors.

Never got the appeal of this song but I keep running into it. Is it from some super popular game or something?

It’s based on an instrumental track originally from the 4th Touhou Project video game. I think they’re very popular in Japan, but the important thing about this song is the fan-made music video. It’s almost entirely black and white, so it could be played back on any device capable of displaying at least 2 colors. It became a challenge to see what devices you could get the video running on, very similarly to what people do with Doom.

It’s from the Touhou game series (shoot em up with anime girls based loosely on folklore). The song was originally level music for Touhou 4 (1998), but got remade in 2006 for an official album.

Touhou fans are pretty die hard and the Bad Apple music video was many fan’s introduction to the franchise. Take that and the relative ease of recreation and it’s becomes a more than decade old meme.

So, the frames are printed on the Voxelab and the steppers are playing on the MPSM?

Still pretty cool, but I admit my expectation was that the gcode would somehow play the tune but somehow result in the single print from the thumbnail. Unrealistic I suppose.
