Was gifted some old lights that were designed to be stuck into holes in wood. Didn’t want to drill holes that big into my kitchen cabinets, so I designed and printed these holders that can be screwed to the cabinets and hold the lights. Also the lights are surrounded by it, so they don’t glare. Here are the results:
Combined it with two smart plugs, one that’s connected directly to the lights and one that sits in the socket right under the light switch. The one under the light switch is configured with a „scene“, that means if I press the little button on it, the plug connected to the lights will turn on, allowing me to use it as physical remote switch, while still being able to use the socket.
Looks good, though adhesives are notorious for failing once they get warm a few times, and will fail eventually. I would totally put a couple of screws holding them up. Beyond that, love the setup.
Thanks! They actually are mounted each using two little screw, because of exactly what you wrote :) The lights itself have little hooks around them, basically to hold them in wood, but the layer lines come in handy here, that’s why I printed the mounts with 0.3 layer height.
I can’t imagine why anyone would drill holes in the bottom of their cabinets to put lights in. Is that actually what you’re supposed to do with that product?
Adhesive’s usually fail eventually.
Screw holes can be puttied and painted over if you need to.Yeah the screw holes aren’t a problem, but a 3 inch diameter would be. I thought it was crazy that those lights would be sold expecting people to do that, but it turns out he’s salvaged them from a mirror.
These lights were originally designed to be used with a bathroom mirror I think. I just repurposed them as I was given them for free. But yes, I definitely wouldn’t want to drill holes that big into my kitchen cabinets. The little screw holes don’t bother me that much, they can be covered up once if needed.
