This is why Robot Santa judged everybody very naughty except for Zoidberg.

Have you heard of Star Trek Continues? It’s a fan-made production that meticulously re-created the look of TOS to “complete the five-year mission.”
I liked the twist of anger being the virus, but felt like the satire was pretty muted compared to what they could have done with the concept.
The sharpest jab, I think, was subtle. That was when Hermes narrated the typical scifi/magic mumbo-jumbo that comprised the solution (like, reverse the polarity of the dark matter tachyon field in the SIF and feed it into the spacetime rift through the deflector array), but in this case it was an accurate description of a real vaccine. Dressing up the vaccine with the language of shady miracle cures might have worked in the real world, if it weren’t for those pesky medical ethics.
I was on vacation last week, and just saw this episode yesterday. I agree, it was a lot of fun! Good jokes (“Dumpster nog! And not the kind for kids!”), snappy pacing, good performances, and some of that sentiment they’ve been working in more. I particularly enjoyed each family’s variation on turducken. (“Oh, no, they crave death.”)
As to what happened to Marianne, or why Robot Santa has a naughty/nice switch instead of bad programming? SCIENCE HAS NO ANSWERS!
I love the way the John DiMaggio can ‘sell’ even a corny, predictable line.
“I don’t have to…”
I think that this reboot suffers by unconscious comparison to the best episodes of seasons past, and the competition from a lot of great animated shows that have come out in years since. Also, this time around, the writers are much more into sentiment than rapid-fire comedy. We already got hints of that by the conclusion of the Comedy Central run.
Again, I was glad to have this episode, even if it’s not a classic. I feel it’s about on par with The Thief of Bag Head, to pick an example, and just about anything is better than The Beast with a Billion Backs.
It was enjoyable, I laughed a bunch. The ridiculous justification for returning to Old West conditions in 3023 was reasonably clever, as was the 3D standoff/gunfight. I watched too much Archer, though, and got annoyed by the six-guns firing dozens of rounds.
Here’s hoping that the candy is a “brick joke.” A lot of the creators of the show also worked on Disenchantment, which has been basically 4 seasons of setting up the dominoes, so maybe that rubbed off on them.
You win again, gravity!
