Finally! My 2020 SE barely lives a day, after WatchOS 10 update.
Same. Battery life gone to shit on my SE since WatchOS 10 too.
Barely surviving with my series 5 as is
My series 5 battery has been much worse since installing watchOS 10.
Me too. Mine is so noticeably worse I started to think I needed to replace the battery. But I’m glad to hear that’s probably not the case.
Before the update I wouldn’t even think about the battery and just charge overnight. Now it’s a real crapshoot on how long it lasts.
Series 4 looking at you longingly, missing 2 of 3 death rolls
i still have a series 3, the battery still last me a day and a bit without any workout. The darn thing won’t die. Let’s see if the series 10 has anything worth upgrading to.
My Series 2 would enter the chat, but it needs to get its Social Security Check first before it can afford a bus ticket to get here.
Not much draining on my Series 8.
But I have noticed it doesn’t refresh regularly since watch os 16. Like every time I click on a complication it’ll give different results.
Same on my series 7 - I’ve not noticed anything. I guess it affects older models more.
I noticed it on my series 7. Before I got at least a bit more than 24 hours of normal use with the screen always on. Now it is getting about 4 or 5 hours less.
Weird - I’m still getting a day and a half, and I’m using the Snoopy face with all the animations. Since there’s no other complications, I wonder if it’s one of those that is affecting the problem
They don’t have much battery life to begin with. Good grief.
It’s gotten much better with like the 7th gen onwards. But yeah, there ain’t a ton to spare.
My Ultra 1 was having this after I did the ios17 upgrade on my phone and the subsequent watchOS update.
I lived with it for a couple of weeks then did a full reset with only a single face installed. I am back to my normal battery life now
I thought it was just in my head that the battery wasn’t lasting as long after updating. Glad to know I’m not alone! 😂
The problem with this is that the battery capacity will be greatly reduced, meaning it will need to be replaced sooner than normal.
Weird. I have a series 9 and this thing sips battery. After a full day I’m down to maybe 60% and that’s if I heavily use it.
I had a similar issue on watchOS 9 and apple after many attempts would not help me revert the update which seems to have caused the issue. I ended up having to pay for Apple care and get a replacement watch, which I refuse to let update. Pretty annoying. I definitely won’t be allowing my current one to update to version 10 now. It’s sad that the bar is this low, but at least Apple doesn’t force you to update in this case (at least so far)
Luckily you’re happy with just their tip in your ass!
I think when Apple announces battery life for watches, the measurement is for the current watch on the current software. Over time, yes your battery holds less charge, but also, the software gets new features that the newer hardware handles just fine, but the older hardware starts to struggle with. Apple doesn’t provide data for newer software on older devices. There’s no spec sheet from Apple saying, “if you upgrade your series 5/6 to WatchOS 9, you should expect this new, lower battery life.”
But we all know newer, better features are going to use more compute - that’s just how technology works. So you either 1) cut off older devices from the newer features, which users get grumpy about, 2) provide the new features but don’t say anything about the impact or 3) provide new features but say how it impacts older devices and maybe provide toggles and system controls to enable/disable. I don’t think #3 is really in Apple’s DNA - that’s more of a Microsoft approach.
The chip in the Series 6 is essentially identical to the one in the Series 9 and all in between. Your explanation works for a lot of cases, but not this one.
Series 9 is a new chip
Is it? Thank fuck. That was an inexcusable lifetime for a wearable chip.
Tell me about it! My old series 6 was getting really rough battery life (hence my big post about it). Series 9 feels really good. These batteries don’t do too well after three years…
Wow I thought it was just my watch’s battery showing its age. I’m glad it’s being addressed.
