True love TOS style:
As much as I love Discovery, those motherfuckers are TRAUMATIZED.

Burnhams father was killed by Klingons. Burnham then falls in love with a human-klingon hybrid (for lack of a better concise phrase) who kills her shipmate. She then falls in love with another man who has his entire planet accidentally ‘murdered’. That man then pals around with ANOTHER murderer who almost gets all of humanity killed. Meanwhile, Stamets has his husband murdered by the human-klingon hybrid and then has to work alongside said murderer. Stamets then loses his shit at Burnham, calling her a murderer for leaving his unmurdered husband on a hellplanet. Lorca and Admiral Cornwall were in sort of a relationship until Prime Lorca vanishes (presumed dead) into the Mirror Universe. Then Mirror Lorca gets killed AND Cornwall gets killed. Ariams husband gets exploded and then Ariam is killed via sanctioned murder. Most love stories on the show involve someone being killed in some horrible way. I was about to mention Grey/Adira being the only one who didn’t have death involved but then I remembered the giant asteroid that obliterated the colony ship and fucking killed Grey. Saru and T’Rina. That’s it. That’s the only relationship in the show I can think of that doesn’t involve tons of people dying.
Note I say all that as a huge fan of the show. But my god. Everyones loved ones might as well be Disney parents with how often they die.
Fucking Grey’s Anatomy in Space
Grey’s Anatomy had hotter guys and (somehow) less melodrama.
More like Stardates of Our Lives or As the Galaxy Turns
Kurtzman can’t get enough “what if character you might start caring about… DIES?” cheap gimmicks so he presses them into as many episodes as he can smear himself on to.
jolene blalock made me forget about seven of nine, ngl
Seven of Nine falling in love with a block of wood on Voyager was her own damn fault.
Yeah the chakotay romance felt super awkward because the dude is such a shitty actor. Guy is probably the most forgettable main character in all Trek shows, all he has going for him is the controversy around the Native American consultant that was actually a fraud.
Seems fitting that the most interesting thing about him wasn’t actually about him, lol.
Even Q made fun of what a bore he was in the episode ”The Q and the Grey”
Q: I’m sure your First Officer— Chuckles, was it? I’m sure he has everything under control.
I always felt bad for Beltran because Chakotay sucking wasn’t really all on him, but after his recent attitude regarding the writer’s strike I hope he never works again.
Disgusting…
Lol I completely blocked that out until I read this. That’s funny af
FR. Hottest space elf in the series.
What’s up with the newer shows having Vulcans displaying passion and other emotions? I haven’t seen Enterprise, but they did it with Strange New Worlds too, which seems to go against their own lore. Vulcans mate once every 7 years during the Pon Forr, not constantly make out like horny teenagers.
It is not exclusive to new shows. TOS, TNG and VOY all do the exact same thing. Every one shows Vulcans being emotional in some form. They’re not emotionless beings. They have stronger emotions than humans do. Stuff slips out occasionally so no, being passionate does not violate it’s own lore.
Also its pon farr but vulcans do not need to be going through pon farr to mate with someone else. Pon farr merely forces it. Also, you say Strange New Worlds does it. Only person you could be talking about is Spock who isn’t Vulcan but half human and half Vulcan.
He is half human, but T’Pring isn’t. In TNG they show Sarek displaying passion, but he’s at the end of his life and has a medical condition.
Well, given the random downvote and refusal to respond, I guess I have my answer on whether or not you want to have an open/honest discussion. Disappointing. I thought better of you. That behavior also doesn’t belong on this community.
We’re trying to be open, accepting, positive and willing to have a discussion. Dismissal and random downvotes don’t belong here. Take care and I wish you the best but you might need to re-evaluate a bit and try to stick to the atmosphere we’re setting here on the server.
I fail to see how T’Pring is relevant to the conversation here. She shows admiration towards Spock and a familiarity with him but that isn’t new nor does it break canon. We’ve seen that with Spock on TOS and Tuvok on Voyager. Sarek is irrelevant to the conversation at hand. He was not the only example in TNG of Vulcans displaying emotion or talking about them.
I’m not appreciative of the extremely dismissive one-liner response. If you want to have a discussion about it then I’m open to that but I’m not if you’re just going to respond with some sort of “Gotcha” response that ignores half of what I said.
