      and an aella fan too

      Grimes
      @grimeszs
      Replying to Madamrisom and @Aella_Girl

Aella has hyper original and creative thoughts. It’s the most rare and trait, and u cannot train to get it, therefore it is the most valuable one. The thing that usually makes a high iq person actually exceptional is the extreme limits of creativity. Also don’t be rude.

this is the person that was supposed to shift musk’s politics towards socialism? folks were surprised this dogwhistling race scientist asshole with fash vibes turned out to be a fash asshole race scientist?

do people actually fall for this shit? I don’t think I’ve ever met a grimes fan in person, but to be fair I am an ancient mummy animated by a curse (which is like being an acausal robot god but a lot more causal and a lot less cool)

she clearly has some idea about writing and playing music, but keeps engaging in anything else

I keep finding the music sounds ok while i’m listening then i can’t remember a note the second it finishes

at the risk of doing fucky things to my streaming recommendations again, I’m gonna give this one a listen

update: a solid 3/10 track where the throwaway vocals completely overwhelm everything else? I’m very sure I’m gonna hear this one again when a trailer house slows it down for the remake of Her in a couple of years

my experience was enhanced by this horseshit looping on my screen during the whole song. featuring: props from target! shit lightsaber effects! pointing to something off camera because you didn’t want to get up!

Lifted lyrics from youtube comments, with commentary:

    I wanna be software
    Upload my mind
    Take all my data
    What will you find?

    A disturbing rejection of humanity.
And a disturbing invitation for data harvesting.

    I wanna be software
    Binary heart
    Infinite options
    State of the art

A cry for help, for less emotion ?

    I wanna be software
    I wanna be code
    Digital dancing
    Upload my soul

Nitpicking, but code is also mere text.
A call for sweet eternal digital un-death.

    I wanna be software
    The best design
    Infinite princess
    Computer mind

I don’t know that I would trust mortal hands to the design of souls.
Isn’t being a princess as you live enough?

    I wanna be software
    Live in the cloud
    Fictional system
    Tell me how

Perhaps forgetting that the cloud is very real, not so ethereal and/or without impact/reliance on the “real” world.

    […]
I wanna be, wanna be, software
    What will you find? (x4)
You can write me, you can be soft(ware)
You can make me however you like (x4)
You can write me, you can design
You can make me however you like (x2)

Song disturbingly in a electro “love song” lyric style (I hope i’m wrong).
Is this a “Please make me into your robot girlfriend” song ?

not her first rodeo with this either: a track on a previous album was pretty full of it too

in the past I wondered if it were just edgy fantasy-lyricalism, but I hadn’t been as overtly aware of the TREACLES at the time. with updated knowledge, the lyrics nearly make me wince

edit: ah, @dgerard@awful.systems also mentioned this

Oh wow, that’s just mask off technofash at this point. Was that anyone else, I’d think it’s just a stylistic choice to sing about a dystopia, but given her connections to people who actually want to build the Torment Nexus…

In any case, as far as the genre of “a sweet voice singing about revolution” goes, I vastly prefer aeseaes, like https://aeseaes.bandcamp.com/track/bloodsucker

You’d be surprised how big the Libertarian/UBI overlap is.

At the most basic level, there’s a pretty core libertarian belief that the government can’t or shouldn’t make decisions and individuals can or should. In this framework, giving money away to individuals will lead to it being spent better than if it was used for actual welfare. So although Libertarians tend to be anti-welfare, sometimes they make an exception for UBI, because it’s still a free market solution.

Some progressives like it to, of course. Means testing is a burden, and limiting what you can spend (for example) WIC on can feel a lot like haves trying to control the lives of the have-nots.

For TREACLES though, I think there’s a more pathological element at play: they plan to put everyone out of work and need a way to avoid a torches and pitchforks scenario.

I’d like to believe that it’s a temporarily embarrassed millionaire coping mechanism: “I will of course come out on top as an alpha techbro philosopher-king, but while I’m in the process of being recognized you should all definitely give me money. Better not make it conditional on me doing anything.”

Whereas I prefer forging a clear path to long-term happiness for humans by getting them all past the demographic transition, improving quality of life and reducing the numbers by making it less attractive to have many kids. I suspect the best way to do that involves regulating capitalism down to a nice incentive system.

Not exactly libertarian, but UBI had some early support from Milton Friedman, as “negative income tax” 🙃

IIRC the association between libertarianism and conservatism is somewhat recent? Wikipedia is saying libertarianism was born out of left wing politics.

That being said the treacles libertarianism is not that at all.

@swlabr If by ‘recent’ you mean ‘since the foundation of the Libertarian Party’. Libertarians were all-in for Reagan, their poster boy Ron Paul caucused with the GOP, etc etc etc.

Rothbard deliberately and consciously stole the term from anarchists for his new right-wing version, anarchocapitalism.

Yes that’s more or less what I meant. I am not a pro historian or anything but libertarianism pre-dates the libertarian party. My understanding is that the origins of libertarianism only bear a passing resemblance to the modern formulation.

(If it is sounding like I am defending libertarianism just fucking kill me)

@swlabr @sneerclub Liberalism and libertarianism do share roots and those roots were, for the time, “leftist.” The basic shared concepts being that government power should be limited by fundamental law and that limits on personal freedom should be minimal, rational, and uniformly applied. Locke, Jefferson, Madison, etc.
American “conservatism” is particularly friendly to libertarianism because it has no monarchist roots.
