MobaPad is a Switch controller and game case maker (that I have never heard of), so they should have reliable info. They said that:

  • The Switch 2 will have physical cartridges and the slot will also be able to accept Switch 1 games.
  • There will be a new button on the back of each Joy-Con, behind the triggers.
  • There will be a new button on the right Joy-Con, by the Home button.

    That’s interesting info.

Though if they are officially licensed accessory maker, after releasing this info, I doubt they will remain one for long.

All I want is analog triggers back so that we can get racing games with proper acceleration and braking.

I’ll just be content with a fix to the drift issue and a bigger handle thing for whatever the new Joy Cons are called so my hands don’t feel cramped playing with them. Adults play your consoles too, Nintendo.

I love my Switch Pro controller, more than most other ones, but this really frustrates me. I have to switch to a different one for practically any racing game

The 3DS had backward compatibility with physical DS games. The Wii U had backward compatibility with Wii games (the Wii could also play GameCube games). No surprises here - especially if they are going to call it “Switch 2” I’d have been surprised if it wasn’t compatible.

3DS cartridges had an extra notch on them to stop them being inserted into a DS. Probably we’ll get something similar here or there will be some software mechanism to stop attempts to run the new games on the old system.

You can also do the opposite though. The Switch had 0 backwards compatibility. The GameCube, N64, and SNES had 0 backwards compatibility. Hopefully this article is legit.

True, but the Switch was a big rethink so retaining backwards compatibility would have been tricky.

Switch had the worst kind of “emulation” where nearly all the best games for Wii U were re-released for Switch at a higher price.

Just because the slot can read Switch games, does not mean that the console is 100% backwards compatible. It could be that only select games (those with compatibility patches) will work or maybe the console will be able to validate the cartridgeto allow you to get a discount on buying the remake from the digital store.

These are worst case scenarios, but don’t go selling your Switch yet.

Unless Nintendo decided to go fully digital which is a definite possibility with each new console generation. Both Microsoft and Sony have made it known for quite a while that they want to go fully digital despite the constant pushback from consumers.

I think Nintendo could see value in a fully digital console as well.

If people keep buy physical… They won’t stop selling it.

But yeah larger trend is hard to ignore although there does appear to be the hard core group not buying digital except PC…

After too many stories of games or movies being “delisted”
