Agreed, even as a huge fan of LD I could personally sense it being more difficult to write more stories for our lowly stalwarts of Starfleet in season 4. Better to be able to end still chanting “Lower Decks! Lower Decks! Lower Decks!”

I’d personally prefer that to the tone Discovery took
Looks like a Christmas pressie from me to me
Ah, nice bit of trivia there
Oop yup, meant Constellation class
Akira, a slick updated take on the Miranda imo! In my head canon this took over from that and the Excelsior class as the workhorse of the fleet.
Species 8472 bio shop, still remember my original reaction of being blown away. Love that the profile reminds me of a missile
Prometheus, though The Doc/Voyager crew were the heroes it was cool to see an ultra militaristic Starfleet vessel. Multi vector assault mode!
Constitution: what can I say, I love a ship with 4 nacelles! Like the Excelsior, not very elegant from the top but it grabbed my attention as a kid.
Nebula: the module on the top always intrigued me, I love that it’s use can be changed to suit the current mission or role.
I adore this episode, especially later on when the SNW crew go fan crazy over the NX-01 crew with those Boimler and Mariner grinning in the background. That and Boim’s Section 31 fast walk
Mike McMahan is a lifelong Trekkie and it shows! Whilst I do wish the references to other shows were toned down a smidge in favour of building new lore I always enjoy them hah. “Not the 'Gazer!”
Mmmmmm fresh Jem’Hadar bones
With a British accent no less
I agree on the predictability on Boimler’s story in this episode, but I think it’s rushing through his progression from hyper competent junior officer to competent commander (or manager or delegator even). Also it’s an opportunity to explore T’Lyn’s dynamic with other characters like you say. Mariner would’ve probably just taken charge (she believes in him but probably would’ve run out of patience), I imagine Tendi might’ve tried to be supportive as is her nature in addition to using her officer training and Rutherford would’ve cooked up some techy shortcut.
I enjoyed seeing him speaking confidently with the captain, especially in the midst of all the chaos. That shows how much he’s progressed over the course of the show imo
That’s why only Ensigns are forced to do holodeck waste removal duty
Honestly I was only skimming these not wanting to accidentally spoil anything for myself, so I’m not sure what else they add! Just searching for them is building real hype for season 4, LD is easily my favourite NuTrek show though I’m a fan of SNW and Prodigy too
Looks almost like a Prometheus class precursor
I agree with you but I think they were trying to get the setup across with her sparring with M’Benga at the beginning, and the doc saying something to the effect of it better not being alone? He’s already established to be a good reader of body language.
But I have to say I did sigh inwardly when the romance angle was hinted at (her looking at Kirk in the night). Would’ve been better to keep it back for something developed over a time. Though I suppose given the end there’s the possibly of a relationship with the Kirk from her reality?
I don’t think it tries to justify that the Illyrians are better at it, or even that the practise should be justified in any way.
It’s more about the treatment of others in a reasonable, decent way which seems to have been clearly lacking from Una’s account. So regardless of what practices her people might have been continuing against Federation law, that did not and does not justify the behaviour of others.
So I agree, it doesn’t try to justify the dangers of genetic modification though I do not believe that’s the aim regardless. It’s about treating others decently. From a continuity standpoint I don’t think it’d make sense to do so anyway, but my concerns still lie here: how did the Federation manage to cover up the treatment of the Illyrians up through the TNG/DS9/VOY era?
If it doesn’t get at least as many as Discovery I’ll be incredibly sad
