Totally agree. Some of the software gatekeeping from Apple frustrates the hell out of me because when you’re spending so much on a self professed premium device something as small as battery age shouldn’t be device specific.

This is what I was hoping for. Something that an Android using friend of mine doesn’t grasp is that Apple adopting RCS with E2EE encryption as it’s implemented at the moment makes them beholden to Google. Google’s putting on a song and dance pretending to be the good guy in this situation but if that were true they would have developed E2EE in a way that was a part of the RCS standard instead of proprietary. In a weird turn of events; Apple committing to improving encryption for the RCS standard has turned this into a really good thing for everyone.
I never would have put this situation on my bingo card after years of Apple’s “Blue bubble vs green bubble” crap.
I unironically love the idea of spacial video, the only problem I see is accessibility for actually viewing them. To that end this is good news! No one I know is going to buy hugely expensive Apple VR goggles but cheaper VR headsets are within the realm of possibility.
Thankyou for your concern ☺️ she’s a nurse and has visited doctors on each occasion. Definitely feels like there’s something underlying there but that may just be me being paranoid.
These are the sorts of features that I am always wholeheartedly on-board with. Ones that work in the background with little to no input that work when required to improve the user’s everyday lives.
After recently finding out that my mother knocked herself unconscious some time ago while she was alone and woke up after almost half an hour had past I’m tempted to buy her an Apple Watch for some peace of mind. To be clear, it’s not a small purchase for me just as a gift but she’s recently had a couple of falls as well so it’s getting concerning.
Don’t touch it like that, you’ll go blind!
I’ve added a bit of extra context for the AoD unlock. Seems to be something to do with the screen activation animation timing.
Funnily I used to have a screen protector on the 12PM but haven’t gotten around to putting one on the 15PM. It could be that I was more forgiving to the 12PM with the protector as an excuse for non-registered inputs.
Hey, no need to be silly! I do wonder what it is in thousandths of an inch though. The true freedom unit!
And my Apple Watch? The shortcut toggles both AoD’s.
Or if carriers supported it. As far as I know on Australia’s biggest carrier supports it. So you might think “just sign with them?” And the irony is I’m signed with one of their subsidies and use their network and don’t get it…
I just wish Apple would approach an on-device solution that’s not dependent upon carriers.
It might not be very complex but I set mine up as a toggle for the Always on Display on my phone and watch. If I’m watching a movie or whatnot (even at home) I’ll often toggle them off so that they’re not in my line of sight.
It’s also encouraged me set some similar rules for when certain focuses are enabled. For example; Now when I connect my phone to CarPlay the AoD will automatically switch off.
You’re expecting too much if you believe they formed their opinion by reading the article.
I wonder if you could combine this with Power over Ethernet to also charge the device?
A Logitech headset for my PC and an older MacBook Pro. Everything else I have is a variety of USB standards or Lightning. Oh, and a couple of Raspberry Pi’s but I don’t know that really counts. My best friend also does this a bit; almost all of his tech is new-ish and uses USB-C so he forgets that not everyone has a bunch of USB-C devices.
I never noticed that, thanks for pointing it out!
It seems so arbitrary. Since their developers have already done the legwork to make it work for that specific use-case you could assume that it would be relatively easy to implement it for pretty much everything.
It replaces what was, to me, a worthless switch. I used the switch maybe once a month. So yeah, it’s a benefit.
Interesting how negative the takes are here. USB-C, AOD, a better telephoto lens, action button and future proof SOC (which is fairly standard for iPhones) has convinced me to upgrade from my iPhone 12PM.
The trade in price offered for my old phone was a big part of the reason I’m sticking with Apple over my next option, Pixel Pro. Saves me from having to deal with marketplace. The Australian pricing seems (from memory) to be pretty comparable to what I paid for my 12PM, which considering inflation and the weak Australian dollar is pretty good.
According to Apple, the update includes a fix for an issue that prevented access to motion data for apps that use the Movement Disorder API to track tremors and symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease.
The meat of the article.
It’s a bit strange because I charge it practically every night. I do have it limited to 80%, I don’t know if that would be the difference.
