Yeah, the only language I’ve seen/tried that actually feels right*.

But for me it falls down when it comes to needing other people and/or the specific engine-level stuff that I want to get started. I was hoping to start out simple with Raylib bindings, but even that I can’t get vertex colors on imported models to work and I tinkered w/my own 2D polygon format but it was too much work for me to finalize.

My part of the fediverse doesn’t seem to work well for asking niche questions at least, I don’t see much talk on Nim and it doesn’t help that it’s hard to find when people don’t say nim-lang. Also there are 2 replies to you that aren’t federated to where I can see them (and my art threads–lowpoly+vertex colors, for instance plant–aren’t federated to your instance).

*= That also may be a mix of my issues plus how some people style their code, though.

  • Why would be this be a concern?

Because companies aren’t cool about stuff like this (even companies you think are cool are not always cool).

This is not direct action, but remember that this shows the thinking to avoid the wrath of a super-litigious company:

“Because the project depends on Nintendo’s proprietary libraries, [Valve] have asked me to take the project down.”
Speaking to PC Gamer via email, Lambert shared that he believed Valve “didn’t want to be tied up in a project involving Nintendo IP.”

(context note for above: Nintendo 64 version of Portal)

I wouldn’t doubt the library used to make these games catching a DMCA (even if there was no legal standing for it).

I also doubt a company would even bother talking about licensing cartridges for platforms so old, though even if they did I don’t think pricing would even be viable for most games/developers.

Side-note: I can also see newly-made games as an extremely clear-cut non-piracy use for emulation which sounds like something companies would foam at the mouth to prevent.

  • I can’t go very fast even on my (small/cheap) ebike and have definitely noticed (even with not-the-best-eyesight) plants/animals, flooding, nearby infrastructure/locations, smells etc. on the trail. I wouldn’t say 15kmh is “barreling” and is my average comfortable speed. Slowing down or stopping to walking around a bit is also incredibly easy (and a thing already you stop to rest/drink/eat anyways), but you can still make up for lost time if needed.

In the context of a show, I could see a lot of angles to this. From somebody remembering something they briefly saw to 1 person in a group investigating something (staying behind, rushing ahead, taking a sample etc), also successfully evading chases and camp-y rock ambushes.

Personally I’d also say that biking long distances just seems easier than walking/hiking. Maybe mechanical advantage (esp. w/derailleur) or the speed, maybe health issues, or maybe there’s just something about the feel of it that’s boring/taxing to me. I can’t imagine walking 20 km but is something I’ve done a few times on my weak ebike.

  • Another thing: I find it likely that just like current ownership and terms-of-service with electronic devices, bots on the market likely won’t allow you to do certain things. Particularly certain “activities” that aren’t even frowned upon by normal people might cause it to lock you out and require “maintenance”.

Actual normal things that you might ask a human to do might not be allowed or might even artificially paywalled (even incapable of learning it if you could “teach” AI) such as knitting (anything that could make money) or any other type of service (imagine choking to death on the floor in your kitchen and hearing “I am sorry, as a sex bot I am not authorized to provide medical assistance. Please upgrade to Gold service plan to allow that feature, or Bronze service so I can contact outside services such as in the event of…”).

Being a shut-in, I’d rather have my brain put in a (not that kind of) robot body. Unfortunately I know that’s more complicated than an AI bot (robots are somewhat a thing now even with locomotion, just not there with power/cost) and unattainable for me unless my brain gets a free spot in cryo as a beta tester (which isn’t currently legal before you’ve died naturally). Then again, I know that’s an unhealthy thought (like “sleep would be a lot easier if I could just initiate it at any time” or “if I got my body replaced, most of my medical issues would be gone”).
