  • The 13" pro is the old touchbar chassis that’s been used since 2016. The 14" is the new bodystyle that came out in 2021 with the M1 pro Macbook pros. If you have the money I’d highly suggest going for the new 14" pro over the old 13" pro. If you wait a bit there should be some heavy discounts. The touchbar is atrocious, the bigger screen is much nicer, and you get a much bigger battery.

But you’re paying a lot more money for not that much more computer. The M3 should be a substantial upgrade over the M2, but not the price apple wants for it, and not the price they’d go for after discounts from stores. Unless you plan on doing long running continuous workloads I’d go with the M3 air (whenever it comes out) or even the M2 air with it’s heavy discounts over the base M3 MBP and it’s not really any discounts.

  • There are tons of devices with built in lightning ports. The most common thing is a dock where you’d be able to stick the phone on top of a speaker or something and charge and do audio all in one go. This cable makes it a whole lot less elegant, but it would let you use it.

Some cars also have hard connected lightning cables. Although that mostly died with the 30 pin.

  • GPUs have gotten massive. My 4090 is about 75mm thicc, and you’d need at least 10 more mm of space between the fans and whatever vents youd want. vs my old monitor which is 60mm(?) thick. Length and width are about half my monitors size. That’s a lot of empty space to build into the monitor, or a massive box to dangle off the vesa mounts.

And if things continue to get ridiculous a box that fits my 4090 now probably won’t even fit a 5080 or 5070 since all GPUs come with massive heatsinks these days.
