Kind of like that but with a modern format that can span multiple episodes.
Well they screwed that pooch by episode 2 or so then.
Agree. One of my favorite species was the Xindi in enterprise. But even they fell victim to the trope of the universal translator. A species like the Gorn where normal linguistics just won’t work would be a nice touch (Ala the movie arrival or something)
I really liked the subtle hints. They arent just savage creatures. They have advanced technology. Communicate in ways humans cant understand at all. Use tech in ways most humans cant handle as well. Etc etc.
Trek would do good to have more species that arent humanoid. It makes for a much more interesting show.
No doubt they are probably better overall, especially when considering manufacturing. But I swear parts of my house where built with scraps (or the last guy was just a sociopath) and most of the time I encounter them it’s in some rare ass instance and it just pisses me off.
Last time was when servicing my AC I noticed the breaker was bad (ie wouldn’t reset ). So I had to swap it and by code I needed to swap the box it ran on since it was showing signs. Sure enough 1 of 4 screws holding it to the side of the house is a fuckin Robertson head. So I was neck deep in fixing shit and had to stop and go find my random cup of bit heads out in the shop.
Now I just carry a bit if I can remember it. But it’s hard to find screws sometimes so I just don’t use it to avoid exacerbating my own problems.
What kind of screwdriver though? Torx are superior.
Riker said nobody’s gonna be well rested if you change their sleeping hours a few days before battle.
Well yeah but thats what space amphetamines are for.
One of the questions I always have about Lwaxana regarding Picard and Odo is whether she was actually incorrect in her telepathic understanding of their feelings about her.
Well i think i recall a DS9 episode where she admits she cant read changelings minds, so Odo she cant read.
That said…I cant recall if i saw this in shitty daystrom, or if it was a dream. But i have a theory that Picard was unusually resilient to telepathy and able to override emotions above all else for the job. Riker was a horn dog, so no doubt she knew he was honking his horn to her daughter from day 1. But Picard was always a company man, and being a cue ball, probably into some more mature women.
My theory is that she knew the man had some kinks in the closet and likely kept some memories of Lwaxana in his spank bank when wondering what could have been. She picked up on it and decided to fuck with him incessantly throughout the show for it, knowing full well he was a trained company man and would never give into emotions like that, at least when stone sober. But she knew what he whipped it to in the sonic shower, he knew she knew and it became the most dangerous game of chess of him trying to make sure she didnt just blurt it out, while playing icarus and riding as close to the twin stars of her bussom as he could to store it in his spank bank without crossing the line.
As for Odo, i think she couldnt read it (again I think i saw it in an episode) but was able to seduce him to get that changeling d, which she encouraged him to “change it up” to be of a perfect fit. And thus, became quite enamored with his graces.
Those are my running theories.
She also serially sexually harassed Odo on DS9.
I mean you do you.
My mouse is a Logitech g pro super light.
Keyboard is a Logitech g613
I have specifically had issues with the g613 on other setups. Specifically with repeating keys etc.
But the Ethernet hub one does perfectly fine. I play games on it basically nightly.
The anker I just use as a travel hub. But have used it in a pinch on my laptop setup.
I have it connected to windows most of the time but had run it through a kvm and on a late 2012 Mac mini. Used that as a work machine through covid on the same setup. Only difference is kvm is gone now
Here’s one I use.

There’s a white tp link version but I had issues with it stopping network activity randomly.
If profile matters and you don’t need Ethernet then this one is solid

Im gonna start there tonight. I started at S1e4 and was underwhelmed. My rule of thumb is 4 episodes before I quite a show though. So ill stick to that at least and because its ST, it doesnt seem like theres any longer story arcs, mostly neat little 20 minute plot lines.
Yeah. I mean I’m not against juvenile humor. The Orville definitely hits that chord well. It’s kinda like family guy in space but without the idiocy of Peter griffin.
But a good example was I watched s1e4 moist vessel last night. Beyond the ridiculous plot narrative with mariner the backup narrative was about the green person just not able to control themselves, being entirely in appropriate and rude, then wandering across the room to look at the shiny thing and causing chaos etc etc. this turns into the backup plot of trying to fix everything that could have been prevented with 5 minutes of self control. I finished the episode but it was hard. That type of behavior is no endearing at all to me. In fact it’s kinda exhausting.
Thanks. Will do.
That type of humor (that was displayed in the episode, but is fairly prevelent in other shows), which i kinda call “quirky physical humor” in that the characters have no internal filter and just blurt out stuff, do silly things to cause plot level issues and just shrug it with “woopsie” etc kinda wear on me in large doses. In smaller doses, like this one, its fine, but definately not something I will binge or even watch nightly.
Which is also why i think some of the aforementioned shows also didnt stick.
That said, I do like the Orville, so there is that.
Also riker trying to get his horn honked. I mean it happens all throughout the series, but its entertaining nonetheless.
I was sitting there thinking…
Ive never been a fan of the cartoon shows (ie: Rick and Morty, Simpsons, Bobs Burgers, KOTH etc etc). Not really sure why, and its not like I havent given them a shot, they just never stuck.
Trek is one where i like the genre, and the series have a pretty wide berth of quality. I thought the episode was solid. But I am not sure if the humor would last on me before it becomes…grating.
May give it a shot though after the episode whereas prior I was like “nah no animated trek for me”
No not really. Often the processors are the same (though there may be versions of micro desktops that have power focused processors like deletion or atom). These are mostly the same setup and the biggest difference is the form factor itself and (because there is more space) serviceability for adding (ie: pcie slots etc)
The sff often have 3-4 pcie slots and integrated psus that are a little more impervious to power fluctuations because the psus have bigger caps. The micros generally have the pico psu style (aka laptop style power brick) and no pci slots (the m715q/m720q think center basically being a unicorn in that is does have a pcie riser)
A dedicated router will mostly be idle (in comparison to a desktop workload) and since they are more common than the think center. Probably easier to source and cheaper.
I like the dell SFF. Not micro pcs but SFF. Solid builds, had for cheap and generally do running bsd.
They use a combination of Bluetooth and nfc and maybe some wideband spec (though I think the wide and stuff is just for when you go in searching) . Basically anytime it’s near another iPhone, the iPhone picks up the tag ID and sends it in.
If it detects a lot of checkins to a phone that isn’t on the same Apple ID, the AirTag will make noise (as an anti-stalking measure)
I believe a recent patch also allows android to report in status, or maybe that’s coming but still in the works. Not sure.
