redditor since 2008, hoping kbin/the Fediverse can entirely replace it.

Do most editors do that by default? If so, that’s great – if not, it’s just a downside for tabs, if you need to hit enter, backspace out the automatic indents and then press space 30 times rather than just hit enter and have it aligned automatically.
vim seems to auto-insert tabs when you hit enter mid-function definition, at least with standard settings.
How does that work, and with which editor settings? If you simply set the tab width (tabstop) in vim, things go south.
Say you have a function definition one indent level in, then 22 characters of text. You more want to align the next line to that. How does that work in practice with tabs?
The obvious way with tabs and ts=4 would be 6 tabs and two spaces(one tab for the initial indent, the rest to match 22 characters). But then someone with ts=2 comes along and barely gets half way there, or someone with ts=8 who overshoots by a lot.
The consistent appearance thing is probably more about how mixing tabs (for indentation) and spaces (for alignment, eg in multi-line function definitions of calls) looks like complete crap if you change the tab width.
My computer names don’t really have a pattern.
Desktop is Neutron, NAS hyperion, old server exscape.
Disks have names from astronomy. Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Pegasus, Orion.
I just recently named my large NAS RAIDZ2 array Laniakea.
I’m not sure how it’s madness. An episode can be bad in itself and not contribute anything of value to the greater story arc, in which case I don’t see why it’s wrong to see it as bad.
TNG was great, and the best episodes are incredible, but most episodes were fairly mediocre. I feel SNW’s average is higher, and it’s probably in part for having LESS than half the number of episodes per season.
I think they’d be fine with 12, maybe even 14, but beyond that I don’t they could keep it as great as it’s been.
It does move the plot forward in many relationships though, worth watching for that reason alone.
I also mostly cringe at the musical parts, but overall I don’t regret watching it.
The third paragraph is wacky on Kbin, but probably because the Markdown syntax isn’t 100% compatible with Lemmy.
It looks exactly the same when I copy and paste it:
EpisodeStardate“The Broken Circle”2369.2“Ad Astra per Aspera”2393.8”Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow”1581.2• The USS Cayuga previously appeared in “A Quality of Mercy”.
I’m guessing that’s a table, which Kbin doesn’t realize is a thing.
Hm, considering your instance name, are you reading this on Mastodon? I’ve not gotten the hang of how federation with Mastodon works, but I’m reading/writing this on Kbin, and the post is on Lemmy, in the discussion thread for the latest episode, where spoilers for that episode are assumed to exist without warning.
In any case I apologize if you were spoiled by my post, but I’m not sure how to improve things in the future TBH.
how can a society or any sort of structure be maintained if you can’t remember anything? The whole premise felt a bit off.
The rulers in the palace could remember, though (because of the shielding provided by some metal). And the workers/slaves remembered enough to perform their tasks.
Yeah, shit like this is why I hate streaming.
On the bright side, the news about Prodigy being pulled is why I started watching it today. Seems pretty fun so far!
Including Picard season 3? 1+2 and 3 are so different that I think it’s almost unfair to even lump them together.
(On IMDb, the worst-rated episodes of S3 are about tied with the best of S1+2.)
If I were to experience it as I am today (and judge it versus games with modern graphics etc), I’d pick Ori and the Will of the Wisps. It quickly became one of my all-time favourite games, and I finished it three times in a year when I discovered it. Beautiful in so many ways.
Half-Life is probably the game that has had the biggest impact on me, though, so that would be my pick if I experienced it as I did around 1998.
