Right but they get all that energy from atom to energy conversion. The starships get that from antimatter reactors but I’m pretty certain that planet-based installations probably just put a bunch of trees and gravel in as base material, convert that to energy and then convert that back into useful atoms.
If you can do matter conversion, then power generation is almost certainly trivially easy.
One of the reasons that Voyage’s writing is so terrible is because all of the good ideas got knocked back. For example the ship was supposed to get progressively more damaged over time, patched up with improvised repairs. That’s why the engineer was a Marquee, because they were used to having to do that sort of thing so they’d have experience that Starfleet engineers wouldn’t have. That’s why she was promoted over a Starfleet engineer. In the rewrite none of that comes through and it looks a bit pointless.
But they decided that was too expensive, so they didn’t do it. In all fairness to them with the special effects they had at the time, it would have been extremely expensive, but it would have made the show so much better.
And also the time she thought she was a ballroom singer. And the moment she switches back to seven you can see it in the way she stands.

It was always socialist. That was blindingly obvious even from the days of TOS. Remember, Star wars universe everyone had just come out of the third world war, practically everything had been destroyed and there was virtually no infrastructure left, people were willing to take pretty much any kind of government going.
Then replicators were invented and once you’ve got that it’s pretty difficult to have anything other than a socialist government or a dictatorship.
I think the reason people don’t really like the theme song very much is because it isn’t the classic instrumental. All of the other Star Treks have been very obviously Star Trek from the opening few tones. Enterprise isn’t like that.
Strange New Worlds got this, even though it was a brand new piece of music just the first few notes, you can tell it’s Star Trek without even looking at the screen.

This is what happens when a stupid person tries to write a clever character. There’s no actual intelligence it’s all just stupid magic loopholes that our character knows for some random reason that makes no actual logical sense.

Yeah well Discovery totally messes with the established timeline. They have a ship that’s more advanced than anything we’ve ever seen on screen before and yet, it’s pre TNG, eh?
It’s not that I don’t like the writing, or the characters, but the least (literally the very least) they could do is have a bit of respect for the source material.
In my mind Strange New Worlds is in a parallel universe. Not the mirror universe, or the Kelvin universe, but another another universe.

A much better implementation of transporters, from a storytelling point of view, is in Stargate, where the various versions of the technology all have pros and cons.
The ring systems are point-to-point only but they can punch through a lot of interference. The Asgard systems work more like the Star Trek systems but they’re much more easily interdicted.
I always like the idea of traveling back in time with a smartphone to show someone in the past and then have to go “look it works better with an internet connection”.
Basically all I’m going to be able to show them is a bunch of apps that don’t work.

People complain about Java being weird all the time. The reason people complain about it is because they use it all the time and things about it annoy them.
Pretty much everyone who uses any programming language has stuff they don’t like about it and we’ll complain about it from time to time. A lot of this stuff never really gets fixed, because updating languages is problematic, see mysqli_real_escape_string.

I’m actually not that shocked. Corporations make weird corporate decisions all the time because they feel as if they’re getting the more professional version or something. They tend to view open source projects as either unprofessional or in some complicated way, actually illegal. Like it’ll turn out that open source isn’t allowed after all.
This is what happens when lawyers who don’t actually know what they’re talking about make recommendations. They don’t know, so they always advise caution. Also they genuinely don’t seem to know the difference between pirated software and open source.
