The reason they’re smaller is that they’re compressed, and expanded during the install process.
For most platforms, the product update is vetted and signed as a functional program, then compressed to save space in transmission, then decompressed and validated prior to swapping with the original.
OS updates and DLCs are available to add new data to an existing system, but this isn’t generally used for discrete parts of a functional program due to the potential for abuse or errors.
Should be the escape key? Cancel should always be escape or command-period on a Mac.
I just let technology do its thing with a bit of tinkering to minimize touch points. If anything becomes too intrusive, I stop using it.
Every once in a while I do things without depending on tech… like taking a walk to someone’s house and knocking on their door to talk to them face to face.
And I say this as someone who’s worked in commercial automation; I too have minimized the time I’m willing to spend fiddling with tech on my own time.
That’s probably why I’ve been an Apple user since the 80s though.
