I’m gonna go ahead and agree with you. I like the contests, and they don’t need to go crazy with rules, but there is some simple room for improving quality and safety. Have you seen the chest compression death machine? That’s my favorite - how the hell has that not been censored?
Most dryers now allow you to print directly from the dryer. I keep my spools like most in cereal boxes with a 100g dessicant sack. For pla I just throw it in dryer, set a timer on it, while I’m prepping my bed and print. Works well. For PETG or tpu I like to try to let it dry in the box for a couple hours before getting started. If you are not carefully keeping filament dry and switch to a sealed dessicant system, I would recommend putting the filament in a drying box for 8h prior to then putting it in your storage container. I tried vacuum bags for awhile and the cereal box thing is way less of a pain.
Ok, I was trying to be on your side about this situation, but this is next level - like human spider web, trying to get gold on /r/cablegore type insanity.
That was my first thought too, but I’m living in a glass house on this one. I’m sure at scale cable management saves time and frustration but for home / office use I find it to be cosmetically pleasing but frankly that it makes doing anything / changing things / adding things / moving things more of a PITA. I find myself justifying poor cable management more and more.
Wouldn’t that still be easier than this nail polish technique though? Seems like it would to me.
Keep my coffee warm
Bruh…
Just 3d print one and grab it while it’s fresh and warm.
I dunno. My “to print list” would really stress me out if I was on this kind of timeline. I kind of get it.
To be clear, I’m trying to pull it out the wider back end of the tube or pull it out the nozzle tip?
Interesting. Know any reseller in US for Das filament?
Well I wasn’t all that worried about this until now! Thanks for unlocking new anxiety. My prints run through the night in the basement. Does this happen often with modern printers?
Serial killer vibes intensify…
Container? Not a Nirvana fan I see.
Nice and thx for sharing the link. Curious about the enclosure. Notice a difference? You have a challenging / drafty space for your printer that required this or just trying to get a bit more perfection / less PETG warping issues? Assume you like it since you are customizing things for it.
Neat. Will check this out.
I do feel like there is a chasm between mastering tinkerad and being able to do even fairly basic things in FreeCad.
Seems like a real window of opportunity for weekend makers that want to up their game but don’t want to go full on traditional cad software. I’m not aware of a decent software package that sits in that space.
This is neat. I’d love to see some clever / creative mods people have been making with this.
That’s pretty cool! Can’t imagine it fits in every spool though.
After reading these comments and thinking about it, I’ve ordered some silicon sealed cereal containers and some 100g color indicator dessicant packs. Decent dessication seems more important than fussing with bags and vacuums. After investing in the bags and now all these cereal boxes and pricey dessicant packs, I’ll admit I’ve thrown way more money at this issue than I had expected to, but hopefully it’s an easy to use long lasting solution to protect my filament library.
How long do these beads last before you need to dehydrate the beads?
I don’t live in a humid environment at all.
I would still keep everything bagged of course, but would be nice to not have to vacuum them each time and then re vacuum after a few weeks when the seal is failing.
