I’m from space!
And it does the other way too. There are tons of big features missing from Microsoft’s ecosystem that exist in the their competitor’s products.
I work for a tech company that is a Microsoft shop, and all the Silicon Valley hires that are used to macOS and Slack complain every damn day about feature gaps.
Doesn’t work for all menu bar icons, and sometimes people just want to hide stuff as with the old classic macOS Control Strip.
Been super common in Android land for a long time. It’s only been recently that manufacturers have been committing to 7 OS generations / years of Android support.
It’s not really rare anymore now that there is legislation around it. Apple is putting this down in writing because that makes them compliant with PSTI.
Apple really needs to fix the latter for non-CarPlay head units. People have been complaining about that for decades.
CarPlay finally fixed this, but it hasn’t been addressed for non-CarPlay cars.
I don’t have time to read through this now, but I’m curious to see what the full T&C text looks like. For example, what happens if your new phone is broken out of the box? Do the terms cover this use case?
Seems like the main driver was not the demand mentioned in then headline, but the massive price drops mentioned in the article.
Looks like the FaceTime cameras are all finally landscape, not portrait.
Ugh. Bigger again?
Telegram and Signal were also yanked by Beijing.
The CCP isn’t going to be happy until they can see and control all digital comms in the country.

Were you able to restore from a backup?

The vanishing music might be a corrupted library file or a library syncing issue. It’s not an uncommon bug. You should search your computer for MP3 and AAC files to see if they’re still available. And this isn’t just an Apple Music issue. This is something that has been an issue with iTunes forever.
As for the UI, what is a “total disaster?” I feel like it is basically the iTunes classic UI these days, sans video and phone syncing.
Siri was originally in the cloud, but Apple has been trying to handle more Siri requests locally so that requests can be handled faster and without internet access.

Care to elaborate?
Why is there no easy way to report stuff like this in the App Store? Apple puts almost all its eggs in the preemptive review basket, and that’s never going to be good enough.
Fair point. Just saying that you don’t need to be in the ecosystem to get the photos.
The fact that MS has that integration in the photos app, and the not file browser, is annoying. Apple handles Android phones the same exact way. It’s a mirror image of how MS integrates with iOS.
On MacOS you have to open the photos app to get Android photos, and on Windows you have to open the photos app to get iPhone photos. Default file browser integration exists, but only for the mobile platform they’ve invested in. MS has it out of the box for Android, Mac OS has it out of the box for iPhone.
If you want something else, you need to download some other file management apps or extensions.
You can import photos directly, over USB, via the stock photos apps in Windows or MacOS.
On Windows: Start > photos > import > from a usb device
My point remains, a lot of the comments here are people that seems to be ranting about something that they don’t spend much time with at all, and according to this community’s name, this is apparently a user group of “apple enthusiasts.”
Yup, them’s the rules.
All I’m saying is that this community often feels like walking into a restaurant called “The Vegan Enthusiast” and finding everyone complaining about the lack of steak on the menu.
Realistically, Lemmy is only really only going to be able to discourage brigading and focus community conversations once it implements some of the community subscription options that Reddit’s mod tools have.
IMHO, the big unseen problem with Lemmy is the lack of mod tools. Communities don’t have the basics to self govern. Reports don’t get seen and communities almost become a glorified topic hashtag, because everyone is always coming in from all, not subscriptions.
