I have been using ios for 16 years and it’s still hard to find things. I really wish they hadn’t copied it. Horribly designed menu

Fully agree. Starting to feel like Windows. I’m used to Windows’ bullshit and have a lot of ways around it, but in exchange I can fully customized my OS.
I’d prefer Mac not act the same though. I use it for programming and work; I don’t want to fuck with it.
I always just use my ide default. Never really had an issue to change it in any ide that I’ve used.
Intellij’s is very pleasing to the eye
I always just answer that with “do you want a software engineer, or a text book? If we need that for a project then I’ll go dig out my college notes”
It usually works with other engineers, the issues are usually with the recruiters.
I really don’t like how rails brings things into scope and you just have no idea what’s there or how it got there unless you know all of the conventions. I guess that’s a rails issue and not ruby though.
I learned in python and C++ so I’m biased towards things that are extremely specific. Definitely doesn’t mean ruby is necessarily bad, I just don’t like it.
It’s a hot take because managers won’t let us :'(
Seems fast enough for me. Never really had to wait on the ide for anything
Yeah I’m of the opinion that unit tests are usually a waste of time and people should only write integration tests.
The only time I think unit tests are valuable is for checking edge cases when e.g. interacting with the operating system.
Imo reviews are more for checking that someone didn’t drop malware into the code base. It’s rare that I get a good review that goes beyond checking for malice.
I still think ruby is a bad language, even though I agree with you
The government telling us to buy a PC
Legal and liability nightmare I’d guess. Imagine someone dies in a house fire so they sue the repair shop, or insurance refuses to pay because you modified your alarm.
I miss going to the Apple Store in 2009. So many cool new toys
